Everything you can do with Luft

From organising a game collection to preparing an opening, these are the tools available in Luft today.

Organise your databases

  • Create and open .luftdb databases with no artificial game limit.
  • Open a PGN instantly in a read-only view or convert it into a complete database.
  • Choose a reference database and consult it from any board.
  • Export a whole database to PGN and remove duplicate games whenever you need to.

Find the games you need

  • Filter by players, colours, date, result, rating, event and ECO code.
  • Sort lists by column and resize them to suit the way you work.
  • Select, copy, move or delete one or several games across your databases.
  • Search for an exact position and open any game that reached it.

Research players and opponents

  • Browse every player in a database and open their games.
  • Review their statistics as White and Black and their most frequent opponents.
  • Merge different spellings of the same player’s name.
  • Prepare against their White or Black games by following their choices move by move.

Explore openings and positions

  • See which continuations occur in your reference database from the board.
  • Compare the frequency and results of every move without losing the current position.
  • Open reference games and return to the same point in the explorer.
  • Set up a position on the board or from a FEN string.

Edit and annotate games

  • Play moves on the board and navigate the notation with the mouse or keyboard.
  • Add variations, comments and annotation symbols.
  • Draw arrows and circles and save them with the game.
  • Promote or delete variations, edit the header and paste a PGN game onto the board.

Build and rehearse your repertoire

  • Assign separate databases to your White and Black repertoires.
  • Mark the positions you want to remember directly in the notation.
  • Rehearse your lines with questions generated from your own repertoire.
  • Get corrections and navigate through the answers after each question.

Analyse with your engine

  • Add and manage the UCI engines installed on your computer.
  • Analyse any position and display several principal variations at once.
  • Choose between one and five lines and inspect their evaluation, depth and speed.
  • Adjust the processing threads and hash memory used for analysis.

Bring in and share games

  • Download a Lichess user’s public games by time control.
  • Import PGN with variations, comments, annotations and graphical marks.
  • Copy games as PGN to the clipboard for use in other applications.
  • Create an animated GIF of a game to share it.

Record your sessions

  • Record your screen while studying or explaining a game.
  • Add your microphone and camera, choose its position and adjust its size.
  • Save the result as a WebM video on your computer.

Luft runs on your computer, with no registration or associated account.
